Trent Port Marina has received Blue Flag Canada certification for its excellence in marina management and commitment to environmental stewardship for the fifth consecutive year. The Blue Flag is an internationally recognized award granted to beaches and marinas that meet the highest environmental, safety, cleanliness, accessibility and sustainability standards. Trent Port Marina is one of only ten marinas in Canada to receive the award. In Canada, the Blue Flag program is administered by Swim Drink Fish.
Swim Drink Fish, the organization that operates Blue Flag Canada on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education, states in a recent report, “The Trent Port Marina continues to set the bar for Blue Flag Marinas in Canada. In the challenging operating environment of COVID-19, Trent Port continued to operate successful Blue Flag seasons, exceeding criteria and creating a thriving and welcoming environment. Trent Port’s dedication to environmental management can also be seen in its continued participation in the Great Lakes Plastic Clean-up.”
The Blue Flag award demonstrates an organization’s commitment to providing a clean, safe, and accessible waterfront. It is the highest-ranked award for environmental excellence for beaches and marinas across the globe. Blue Flag awards go to marinas that meet 38 rigorous criteria in six categories: environmental education, water quality, environmental management, safety and services, corporate social responsibility, and social and community involvement. Trent Port Marina continues to be the only beach or marina in the Bay of Quinte area to have achieved this award.
“Every year, we work hard to find new ways to improve service for our boaters and demonstrate our commitment to the environment,” says Andrew Belej, supervisor, marina operations. “I’m proud of our staff, local residents, and the boating community for everything they do that helps make it possible for us to maintain the Blue Flag designation.”
“I’m thrilled that Trent Port Marina is being recognized for its excellence in environmental stewardship again this year,” states Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. “We are proud of staff’s continued efforts to maintain this designation annually.”
